Our Story
The Beginning
Our story began in 2013, when this beautiful historic building was transformed into Thatch and Thyme Restaurant. Dating back to 1777, the thatched building is a protected structure and has been a cherished part of Kildorrery’s Main Street for over 200 years.
With its rich history and unique character, Joanne saw the potential to create something special while preserving the charm and heritage of the building. In the summer of 2013, her vision became a reality as Thatch and Thyme officially opened its doors, beginning a new chapter in the story of this much loved Kildorrery landmark.
JOANNE
Joanne McEldowney has spent over 22 years honing her craft, working in some of the finest restaurants across Munster, as well as in London, New York and Sydney. During her time at Lovett’s Restaurant in Douglas, Joanne was nominated for Young Chef Ireland, finishing as runner up.
Her travels have greatly influenced her cooking, bringing inspiration from around the world while also deepening her appreciation for the exceptional produce we have here at home. At Thatch and Thyme, we are proud to support local producers, using ingredients from the likes of Bluebell Falls, Hegarty’s Cheddar, O’Folláin, Longueville House, Donnybrook Farms, Strawhall and Hanley’s. Much of our fruit and herbs also come from Joanne’s family garden.
Our menu changes regularly to make the most of what is fresh and available, with everything made in house, from the heart, and with love.
